Rest in Peace, Adam “MCA” Yauch

TMZ is reporting that influential rapper and Beastie Boys founder Adam “MCA” Yauch has lost his three year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.

After a string of cancelled shows by the group in 2009, Yauch, along with bandmate Ad-Rock released a statement via youtube that he was diagnosed with throat cancer and would be undergoing treatment. Last year, the hip hop trio had released their eighth studio album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, receiving great reviews and fan perception.

Last month, the trio, who had broken the mold in both punk rock and hip hop, was inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Due to his illness, Yauch was unable to attend. As tribute, his bandmates, Ad-Rock and Mike D had read a thank you letter to the fans, written by their absent bandmate.

He is survived by his wife, Dechen Wangdu and daughter Tenzin Losel Yauch.

Rest in peace, MCA. The influence you had on the music world will never be forgotten. There will forever be a star missing in New York City.
