As many of you may, or may not know, Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe is being held in a Czech prison for a crime that many believe he did not commit.
In 2010, Lamb of God held a concert in Prague when a fan jumped onstage. Blythe took defense to this and a fight ensued. The fan died 2 weeks later due to head injuries.
After the death of Dimebag Darrell, where a supposed “fan” jumped onstage and fatally shot the Pantera guitarist, musicians in the metal community are justifying his actions as “self-defense”. Disturbed singer David Draiman says, “He didn’t ‘slaughter’ anyone. The kid jumped on stage and started a brawl, and Randy defended himself. That his life was lost in the process is truly unfortunate, but Randy is my friend and he’s no murderer. I feel for the child and for the family and for Randy, but you have to understand that ever since Dimebag Darrell was assaulted, shot, and murdered on stage by a ‘fan,’ all of us have been very defensive/cautious of anyone jumping up on stage. I’m not saying that it’s OK, or justified, or anything like that, only that it’s an unfortunate/tragic set of circumstances. I know Randy’s intention was not to kill the kid.”
Anthrax bassist Scott Ian agreed, saying, “Now the kids can see why there is no stage diving anymore. Especially in the post-Darrell world. It’s all fun and games until people get murdered, die, and get arrested”.
Lamb of God are currently in the process of learning the Czech legal system and sending over the best lawyers in order to help their frontman out of this mess. However, legal fees add up, along with the cost of sending the lawyers overseas. The band is asking fans to donate via their facebook page and paypal. The band is not interested in profit or press from this very sad situation. Any leftover money will be sent to a charity of Randy’s choice.
